Last summer, I wanted to make a baby hat for my cousin, but it ended up being too small. I was so disappointed, but I promised myself I would try again. This was my second attempt, and I actually ended up making it a bit too big, but my hope is that he can grow into it.

#181 – Stretching Cat
My friend Marina has two cats, so when I had the chance to make a birthday gift for her, I knew I wanted to make something cat related! This little amigurumi reminds me of the mobile game ‘Neko Atsume’ that had a brief flash of popularity, but I’m hoping its cuteness will endure.
This was another gift that I made for my relatives in Hong Kong, and I almost loved it enough to want to keep it for myself. One of my cousins has a little girl whose favourite animal is a penguin, so this seemed like the obvious choice. There’s just something about the size and expression of this penguin that won me over from all the penguin patterns out there!
I always liked having Lunar New Year a few weeks after the traditional New Year, since it felt like I was getting a second chance at setting resolutions and beginning a new year. I can’t believe the Year of the Dog (my year!) is over already, but I’m excited for the Year of the Pig.
While I don’t put any stock in zodiacs or horoscopes influencing your life, I do think it’s nice little fact to know about your birthday. My parent’s friend at church recently became grandparents for the first time, and my mom asked me if I could make them a little puppy to celebrate!
Continue reading#155 – Beaded Animal Keychain
There is always something so fun about crafting with children, and I’m always on the lookout for creative things I can do with little ones. I would say that beaded animals are definitely within the range of a patient six or seven year old.

When I was young, my mom would take my brothers and me to William Hawrelak Park a lot. I have so many fond memories of riding the paddle boats, and I remember always being fascinated by the ducks that lived by the pond.
#140 – House Hippo
When I was growing up, I used to watch a lot of television with my brothers. One commercial that really stuck with me was the North American House Hippo advertisement. If you’ve never seen it before, I highly recommend taking a look! At any rate, it’s what inspired this week’s project.
#138 – Mini Dolphin
A while back, I promised one of the little girls I babysit that I would make her an amigurumi for any animal that she wanted, and she picked a dolphin. After browsing Ravelry, I found a pattern and the rest is history.
#136 – Sew Softies
This summer, I’ve been doing a lot of babysitting, and something that I love is being able to do crafts with these little ones as they get older and have better fine motor control! One of the parents has been doing a great job of providing craft kits and other fun games, and I think these sewing kits are my new favourite.
