#164 – CNY Pig

I always liked having Lunar New Year a few weeks after the traditional New Year, since it felt like I was getting a second chance at setting resolutions and beginning a new year. I can’t believe the Year of the Dog (my year!) is over already, but I’m excited for the Year of the Pig.

I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I had a really hard time with counting stitches with this project. When I was following the pattern, I couldn’t seem to keep the increases in the corners for the life of me. Instead, I just made sure to do my increases in the middle stitch of the corner from the previous row. It seemed to work out okay, but I think this is a sign I need to practice crocheting in the round more, because clearly I’m doing something different than everyoone else.

My family went out to do our family dinner the past Friday, which was nice! Other than that, we didn’t do much to celebrate this year, but I’m still very grateful for the yummy food I got to eat, and more importantly, the time I got to spend with loved one.

Do you celebrate any version of Lunar New Year? What traditional foods do you most like to eat? I think I like 年糕 (Glutinous “Year” Cake) the most, either fried with egg, or baked in the oven. I just love how chewy it is!

Until next time, happy crafting!
