#155 – Beaded Animal Keychain

There is always something so fun about crafting with children, and I’m always on the lookout for creative things I can do with little ones. I would say that beaded animals are definitely within the range of a patient six or seven year old.

  • Assorted beads (2 yellow / 17 pink / 22 blue / 24 white)
  • 75cm of black cord
  • 1 key ring

*This is not the exact pattern we used, but is similar and provides helpful picture tutorials of how to make beaded animals.

I remember making these myself when I was 10 or so, so it’s very gratifying to see that little kids are still making the same things even though they are surrounded by TVs, cell phones, and other entertainment devices. For the most part, the girl I was babysitting was able to make this without my help. I would recommend helping them pull the wings tight, but other than that, just cheer them on as they design their animals! I was gifted this dragonfly keychain after it was completed, and I love the way that children can be so free with their possessions and time.

Until next time, happy crafting!
