I really want to get better at sewing. Honestly, the thought of adding a zipper shouldn’t fill me with fear, but sure enough, I avoided this step of the project like the plague. Thankfully, there were a few handy YouTube tutorials, and I think that I managed a passable finished project!

#355 – Needle Felted Eyes
Big deal alert: I finally took the plunge and needle felted something. I’ve had the tool for two years now, and only ever really used it for a few yarn joins here and there. Before I sent off the lamb lovey, I decided that it needed a face after all. As a quick summary, it was way easier than I thought it would be, but I definitely need more practice to make it look less creepy.
Continue readingReview #8 – Yarn Bags
Without even noticing it, I’ve somehow ended up with a collection of project bags for knitting and crocheting. There are so many talented sewists out there, and the fabrics they find are so cute! I thought I would do a mini show-and-tell for some of the local Canadian makers I’ve found.
While my preference is for sweaters worked in the round, this sweater was worked in two panels (front and back) and the sleeves were worked flat as well. This means that the pieces had to be seamed together in order to make a wearable garment. I’ve always struggled with seaming, and if I’m being honest, it’s almost ruined a few of my finished objects. I was determined not to let that happen this time.
I’m currently testing a new design for Courtney (Tinderbox), and she is amazing at adding small details and techniques to her patterns that really optimize the fit for all body types. This time, she included darts as a method to ensure a well-fitting top! I’ve got a long way to go until finishing this pattern, so you have to wait a little bit longer for that final reveal, but I couldn’t wait to talk more about this technique.
Continue reading#242 – Sew Mini Animals
If you recall a few summers ago, I mentioned the Sew Softies kit and how my babysitting child loved to complete them! Well, he’s now seven years old (almost eight), and he’s moved on to these more intricate mini animals!
This month, my church launched a new sewing class in order to provide more opportunities to invite new friends to church. Even though the focus of the class is pattern drafting, rather than the physical act of sewing, this was still something I really wanted to learn. Still, there was a slight plot twist – all the lessons are to be delivered in Cantonese!
I know that I posted a little while ago about the Twilight Sparkle I made for a babysitting child, but I wanted to talk a little bit more about the eyes! They were made with felt, and even though they were super basic and glued on, I know that there are so many more directions that felt eyes can go.
I know this is a random post, but life has been a lot busier since I started working, and crafting has sadly had to take a back seat. Instead, I thought I would walk you through one of the storage ideas I use in my room.
Some things just go together, like the idea of tie-dye and summer camp. While I actually made this t-shirt ages ago, I’ haven’t had the chance to write it up until now. I thought it was quite fitting for these ending days of summer.
