#178 – Recycled Pockets

I know this is a random post, but life has been a lot busier since I started working, and crafting has sadly had to take a back seat. Instead, I thought I would walk you through one of the storage ideas I use in my room.

  • 2 Denim pockets
  • 4 Pushpins
  • 1 Corkboard

I had a pair of old jeans that developed a hole in the groin area, so I knew that I couldn’t repurpose these pants into shorts. Instead, I decided to rescue the back pockets and repurpose them. I used fabric scissors cut the pockets out, but unfortunately, I don’t have a serger to finish the edge properly. Instead, I tried to leave a small margin outside the stitching to prevent any holes or drastic unravelling, and so far it seems to be holding up! I know that you can add stitches to reinforce the edge, even without a serger, but since nothing terrible has happened yet, I won’t be fixing the raw edge at this time.

Currently, the pockets are pinned to my corkboard. I use them to hold business cards from local makers/businesses that I’ve picked up at markets! It’s a handy way to keep the business cards in one place, and now when I need to look up a local maker, I can just go through my little collection instead of having to track them down on Instagram or other social media.

I’ve seen other projects online where people have repurposed pockets into a coin purse, but this feels beyond my current sewing abilities. I swear it’s on my list to become more proficient with the sewing machine, but there’s just so many cool projects out there.

Until next time, happy crafting!
