Review #8 – Yarn Bags

Without even noticing it, I’ve somehow ended up with a collection of project bags for knitting and crocheting. There are so many talented sewists out there, and the fabrics they find are so cute! I thought I would do a mini show-and-tell for some of the local Canadian makers I’ve found.

Assorted yarn project bags

1) Small Zippered Project Bag (Feathers and Hares)
I fell in love with this fabric at the Edmonton Fibre Frolic, but Pam didn’t have the bag size I was hoping for. Luckily, Pam is so sweet and she instantly offered to make me a custom bag as soon as she got home! The inside lining is equally cute with white fabric with grey birds, and there’s a zippered pocket inside, which is perfect for little notions. I love using this bag for socks.

2) Large Wire-Frame Project Bag (Sew Shannon YYC)
This was another Edmonton Fibre Frolic find, but I will be honest with you and admit that I have never used it for yarn. I have used it as a lunchbag for the last three years, and I haven’t looked back! I love the wire frame and how it opens up wide for easy access.

3) Small Wedge Bag (Atelier Nekozuki)
I couldn’t help myself when I saw this fabric pop up on my Instagram, the bees are just so cute! There are no inner pockets for this bag, but it holds a surprising amount of yarn! I’ve used it for two-ball shawls before, and it worked pretty well as long as you rolled the shawl up tightly toward the end of the project.

4) Large Drawstring Project Bag (Songbird Handmade)
Katie’s yarn bags sell out so quickly, so I had to set multiple alarms in order to get one. The apricot fabric is so cute, and the faux-leather makes the bag feel so classy. I have used it for a sweater project using super bulky weight yarn, and the bag held everything I needed. I am also considering using this bag for short trips as well, since it is both functional and adorable.

I’m sure that this is not the end of my yarn bag purchases, so if you know of more makers that I should check out, please let me know! I think it’s so fun that many of these makers create one-of-a-kind bags and limited runs with fabric. I do wish I could sew so I could try making bags too, but I feel like that’s a very deep hobby to fall into, and I’m not quite ready for that yet.

Until next time, happy crafting!
