It feels like we’re barely in to the summer and yet we’ve already broken so many temperature records. For the first time in my memory, we had temperatures approach 40 degrees Celsius, all due to the recent ‘heat dome’. That made this test project perfectly timed, since this bandeau works best on those sweltering days.

#286 – Speed Socks
Fun fact: Weichien named these socks “koffie” after a fellow test knitter joked that this pattern whipped up so quickly, just like the dalgona coffee trend. In my head, I think of them as speed socks since they work up quickly, and the little chevrons remind me of arrows on a race track turn.
I’ve been dropping hints about this project for weeks, and I’m over the moon to finally have a finished object to show off. From the colour contrast to the simple design to the boxy fit, everything about this sweater brings me so much joy.
You would think that after fifteen pairs of socks, I would be able to handle almost anything, but I found this pattern test surprisingly tricky! I found it difficult to keep my tension consistent with the colourwork floats, but by the second sock, I was already feeling more confident. It just goes to show that practice makes everything easier.

Spring has been a tease the last few weeks, with some golden sunshine days, and rain/snow mixtures the next. Because of that, my outdoor adventure goals have been put on hold, but I’ve been able to tackle some projects that have been on my waitlist!

Continue reading#274 – Chunky Cable Socks
You’ve heard me wax rhapsodic about sock knitting before, but I’m here to tell you about a new aspect that makes it even better – DK weight yarn. DK socks work up so much faster than fingering, and they feel even warmer due to the heavier gauge yarn. If you’re looking to try it, I have the perfect first pattern for you to try.
I alluded to this pattern test a few weeks ago when I talked about the Garter Tab Cast-On, and I’m excited to finally be able to show you how this shawl looks! The shawl is a great size for wrapping up in, and the pattern is so satisfying to work up.
Winter hit hard this week, with temperatures plunging to -30°C and lower. I decided that my first order of priority this weekend would be to make a cute headband that I could wear, both indoors and outdoors, to keep my ears warm. This pattern instantly caught my eye with the intricate cables.
Even though this winter has been mild so far, I can’t help but feel that more snow and colder weather might be in store before the spring. Luckily, pattern testing always gives me the motivation I need to get more warm winter accessories made.
