#266 – Cable Headband

Winter hit hard this week, with temperatures plunging to -30°C and lower. I decided that my first order of priority this weekend would be to make a cute headband that I could wear, both indoors and outdoors, to keep my ears warm. This pattern instantly caught my eye with the intricate cables.

  • 1/4 skein of Red Heart Soft – a medium weight (4) yarn (above: Lilac)
  • Size 8 (5.00mm) knitting needles (I used Knitter’s Pride 60cm circulars)

I’ve already gotten a compliment about this headband, so that’s how I know this pattern is a keeper. The cables are thick and plush, and you can learn the pattern quickly so that you can watch TV without making too many mistakes.

I did add an extra repeat of the rows so that the headband would fit my head, so that might be something to keep in mind. Headbands are easy to measure as you go though, so this would be an easy modification to make. There is also a good amount of stretch in this headband due to the cables, so if you’re between repeats, it might not be the end of the world.

I’ve definitely said something like this before, but the texture of cables is something that I am addicted to. Now that I know how to knit AND crochet cables, they will probably pop up in a lot more of my future projects. Consider this your fair warning!

Until next time, happy crafting!
