When my best friend and I were growing up, we would write each other letters and hand-deliver them to the mailbox because we were too broke for stamps. I’m not sure exactly what started us off on that path, but I have a ton of fond memories of scribbling these letters and waiting anxiously for the reply. I genuinely think this is what kicked off my love of receiving hand-written mail.

#384 – Mystery Loot Bags
This project was the brainchild of my babysitting child, who is now 10 years old and infinitely more creative and artistic than I was at that age. I think she must have been inspired by loot boxes in online games, or maybe the gacha capsule machines in Japan. At any rate, our goal was to create mystery bags filled with her ‘paper stuffies’ so that we could draw for them later in the afternoon.
(As a disclaimer, I signed up for two big test knit/crochet projects over the month of August, so I’ll be posting a lot of non-craft related things as I tackle them.)
This week is about reading! It’s my original favourite hobby, and seeing it from the lens of a speech-language pathologist makes it even more fascinating.
#241 – Printed Post-It Notes
I recently learned about this technique from an Instagram account for a speech-language pathologist the other day, and I was instantly struck with all the options this opened up. Imagine if your sticky notes could say anything you wanted! You could have checklists for all your clients, inspirational quotes to hand out, or anything in-between!

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned it, but my best friend and I used to write letters to each others on the regular. I loved opening up my backpack and finding a new letter to reply to! Now that I’m older, I’m excited to start on a new pen pal journey!

It was pointed out to me the other day, that as long as I have a colour printer, I can theoretically make my own stickers. All I need to do is to buy a full-sheet label sticker, and then I can print my stickers and cut them out as desired!
I actually found the template for this card on Pinterest when I was looking for a craft that would be both kindergarten-friendly and easy to manage in a big group. I like how simple this craft is, and the message inside is so cute! It reads “I love you to the moon and back”. How sweet is that?
I did this with my Sunday School kids, and it turned out pretty well! I just ran the bookmarks through the laminator afterwards to provide an extra bit of durability.
My brother gave me this set a few years ago for Christmas, and I really like it! I don’t write with it as often as I might, mostly because I still find the concept of fountain pens to be very “fancy”, but here we are.
I love love love receiving anything handwritten. Whether it’s letters, birthday cards, or anything in between, they instantly gain a special spot in my heart. Postcards are even more special because it means that someone was thinking of me, even while they were on vacation, and that feeling is so precious.
