#201 – Rocketship Card

I actually found the template for this card on Pinterest when I was looking for a craft that would be both kindergarten-friendly and easy to manage in a big group. I like how simple this craft is, and the message inside is so cute! It reads “I love you to the moon and back”. How sweet is that?

  • 1 sheet of cardstock (colour A: blue)
  • Scrap cardstock (suggested colours: pink, yellow, purple)
  • Scrap yarn (suggested colours: red, orange, yellow)

Quick disclaimer! I never did receive the template even after signing up for their e-mail list, so I had to improvise my own sizing for all the different components. As a result, the ratio of the rocketship to the rest of the card is a little bit off, but I still think it’s cute. If this happens to you too, I would recommend trimming the card size. Another tip would be to make sure that the base of the rocket is close to the edge of the paper, so that the yarn “fire” actually looks like it is coming from the rocketship.

The speech therapist in me thinks that this is a great activity for children to practice their fine motor skills by doing their own cutting, so I actually had the kindergarteners cut their own shapes out. Yes, it meant that the circles were a little lopsided, but it adds to the “made with love” aspect of the card.

The original website states that this is a Father’s Day card, but honestly, you could make this at any point of the year and it would still be well-received. After all, you can love someone to the moon and back at any point of the year. If space-themed love puns aren’t your thing, you could always customise this card with any message you wanted.

Until next time, happy crafting!
