For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved finding out the significance and meaning behind names. It’s even better if there’s a personal story to your name, like being named for a close relative or loved. one. Anyways, if you give your newborn son the name Leo, you’re basically asking for lion themed gifts, right?

One of my babysitting kids asked me if I could teach her how to crochet amigurumi the other day, and while I tried my best to show her, this kit was a bit out of her skill level. I ended up completing the Twilight Sparkle doll for her, but I hope it still brings her a lot of happiness.

This was the first time that I’ve ever been asked to make something based on a picture of a real pet! I ended up purchasing a pattern to use for a French Bulldog, and then adjusted the colours to match the real life dog.

My friend Marina has two cats, so when I had the chance to make a birthday gift for her, I knew I wanted to make something cat related! This little amigurumi reminds me of the mobile game ‘Neko Atsume’ that had a brief flash of popularity, but I’m hoping its cuteness will endure.

This was another gift that I made for my relatives in Hong Kong, and I almost loved it enough to want to keep it for myself. One of my cousins has a little girl whose favourite animal is a penguin, so this seemed like the obvious choice. There’s just something about the size and expression of this penguin that won me over from all the penguin patterns out there!

I always liked having Lunar New Year a few weeks after the traditional New Year, since it felt like I was getting a second chance at setting resolutions and beginning a new year. I can’t believe the Year of the Dog (my year!) is over already, but I’m excited for the Year of the Pig.

While I don’t put any stock in zodiacs or horoscopes influencing your life, I do think it’s nice little fact to know about your birthday. My parent’s friend at church recently became grandparents for the first time, and my mom asked me if I could make them a little puppy to celebrate!

When I was young, my mom would take my brothers and me to William Hawrelak Park a lot. I have so many fond memories of riding the paddle boats, and I remember always being fascinated by the ducks that lived by the pond.
