This project was the brainchild of my babysitting child, who is now 10 years old and infinitely more creative and artistic than I was at that age. I think she must have been inspired by loot boxes in online games, or maybe the gacha capsule machines in Japan. At any rate, our goal was to create mystery bags filled with her ‘paper stuffies’ so that we could draw for them later in the afternoon.

#383 – Mini Peach Pie
It has been such a long time since I’ve made a pie, but when my friend asked me to do a baking date together, I jumped at the opportunity. She wanted to make a full size pie for her coworker, but there were enough leftover scraps for me to make a mini peach pie!
I was fortunate enough to be invited over to dinner at a friend’s house for Easter long weekend, and I knew that I wanted to bring a dessert that matched the occasion. To me, lemon bars have that fresh zest that I associate with spring, so I figured this was a good time to try a new recipe!
Continue reading#374 – Pasta Cooking Class
For my best friend’s bachelorette party, we decided to book a cooking class because she has always been a bit of a gourmand! While most cooking classes are a bit of a splurge money-wise, I think they’re really fun to do with friends since you get to stay busy, chat a little, and eat something yummy at the end.
Whenever my work has a potluck, my default move is to bring a dessert, mostly because I am still not great at cooking, and baking feels so much easier to me. This time, in honour of autumn and upcoming Halloween, I decided to try make some pumpkin bread!

If you have ever celebrated a birthday with me, you may have had a chance to try my traditional birthday cake, a Skor cake. To the best of my knowledge, this was a creation my mother made up when my brothers and I were kids. It remains my favourite cake, even after trying some of the best that Edmonton has to offer.
I know that I’ve posted about two different banana bread/muffin iterations on this blog already, but here is yet another recipe. This time, I went with a gluten-free recipe to use up some of the coconut flour I have in my pantry. To be honest, I didn’t love it, but I feel like both the good and less ideal crafting adventures should be documented.
This week, it was my turn to bring food for a potluck at work, and I immediately claimed the dessert slot. While my cooking has improved (I hope), it’s still baking where I feel the most comfortable in the kitchen. I decided that I couldn’t go wrong with a classic brownie recipe.
Continue reading#322 – Egg Custard Bun (奶黄包)
Sorry not sorry for yet another Chinese bakery post, but this is just where I am at this point of my life. I have no regrets. When I saw that Kristina’s cookbook also included a recipe for 奶黄包, I knew I would have to try it.
