#329 – Wrong Side Sweater

This is my third toddler sized sweater project, and I’ve loved every single one of them. I’ve said it before, but I really do think everything is cuter in smaller sizes. As another selling feature, this test knit happened to be for a raglan, which was perfect since I prefer raglans to yoke sweaters!

  • 1 & 1/4 skein of Lion Brand Heartland – an aran (4) weight yarn (colour A: Grand Canyon)

  • 1/20 skein of Caron Simply Soft – an aran (4) weight yarn (colour C: Country Blue)
  • Size 6 (4.00mm) knitting needles (I used Knitter’s Pride 80cm circulars)
  • Size 4 (3.50mm) knitting needles (I used Knitter’s Pride 80cm circulars)

Pattern by Max at Les Garçons

This project uses a continuous knit stitch in the round, but has this garter stitch appearance in the finished product! The secret is in the name, with the ”wrong side” facing out during the knitting process, and the reveal occurring after cast-off. It’s a wonderful example of beauty in simplicity, with the stripes adding the perfect amount of flair. To make it even better, Max created a pattern for adults to match the children’s, so you could make a family set!

Wrong-Side Sweater (Size 2T)

Like I mentioned last post, figuring out the German Short Rows took me four tries. Other than that, this pattern flew off the needles. I specifically chose acrylic yarns for easy washing with toddlers, but if you were making an adult version, you could definitely mix it up with different wool or fibres.

I ended up sending this sweater to my classmate as a Mother’s Day surprise, so I hope it fits her little one. There’s something to be said about clothing made with love, and I think it would be so neat to see the younger siblings wear the same sweater too. Did your family have anything like that too?

Until next time, happy crafting!
