I am still just as in love with Weichien’s designs as I was in 2021 and I test knit for her for the first time, so I try and apply to test knit for her every chance I get. This time, she created a perfect cat design, and I was so happy that I got to give it a try.

#406 – Slouch Socks
This was a really fun test-knit for me as Katie invited me to knit one sock toe-up and the other sock cuff- down. It really goes to show how talented Katie is as a designer as she was able to provide two great options for interested knitters. On top of that, the sock has the perfect retro vibes that instantly make me think of staying cozy on cold winter nights.
I always think knitting is so interesting because everyone has their own unique way of doing things. This can result in a terrifying amount of cast-on and cast-off techniques, but they are often fairly similar at the root of it. When I saw this Turkish Cast-on, which is a new-to-me approach, it instantly made me think of a simpler version of Judy’s Magic Cast-on!
Although my blog posts might lead you to believe that all I do these days is weave, my craft life has continued to include knitting projects, and I am thrilled to be able to post about this particular one. It’s a wrap dress that fits like a dream and is so cozy at the same time, and I can’t wait to wear it to all the holiday gatherings this year.
I know that I’ve already posted about the standalone i-cord and the i-cord bind-off, but this was the first time I had encountered the i-cord edge! It helps to provide a neater edge to the fabric, which was especially nice in this design as the edges formed the neckline of a dress. I could also see this edge looking really nice on the edges of a cardigan or cropped jacket.
It’s honestly a little embarrassing because I started to make mittens with this yarn over nine months ago, but here we finally are. Thankfully, this attempt had fewer road bumps, and I was able to cross the finish line in time for my friend’s birthday.
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I bought a Hudson’s Bay themed blanket and cushion kit, and I’ve slowly been working through it. The blanket worked up like a dream, but I actually had to make the cushion cover twice, mostly because I forgot to check gauge the first time around. Thankfully, I didn’t have to try a third time.
A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a kit for a Hudson’s Bay blanket and cushion set, and I’ve finally gotten around to starting it. On days where I’m not really feeling creative, I like kits because everything is already all laid out for me. I don’t have to pick a pattern or dither about yarn selection. I can just sit down and go. It’s very soothing.
Despite having started in crochet before diving into knitting, I had never heard of the crochet cast-on technique. It turns out that this cast-on more closely mimics the cast-off edge than a backwards loop cast-on or knitted cast-on. Given that this is a blanket, I really wanted both sides to look as similar as possible, so this seemed like a great technique to try out.
Continue reading#369 – Ginger Zip Sweater
I have been eyeing the Patagonia Synchilla sweater for a long time, mostly because I love the idea of a quarter-opening pullover. I haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet, but when I saw Joan call for testers on this gorgeous cable-knit quarter-zip sweater instead, I felt like this was the much better alternative for what I had been looking for. This way I could customize the colour however I wanted, while still keeping the benefits of the quarter-opening!
