#304 – Turkish Heel

Another week, another test knit project, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! This time, I’m working on a fun pair of DK socks, and I almost can’t believe how quickly the first sock worked up. There was a fun new heel technique on this project, and I think it might be a new favourite.

  • Appropriate weight yarn
  • The appropriate gauge needles (either DPN or circular)

I genuinely think that this is the most straightforward heel that I have ever knit. There’s no fussing about wrapping and turning, and there’s no gusset to worry about decreasing for either! I even like the look of the stockinette along the center of the heel, although I am curious about how it might feel in a snug shoe or boot.

I know that the above picture is very low-quality, but you’ll just have to take my word for it that it’s a very high-quality technique. It’s surprisingly tricky to take a nice picture of your own heels when you’re just one person with a not-so-great phone camera, but if you have any tips, I’d love to hear them. It might be a couple of weeks until I can show you the rest of these socks, but I promise it will be worth the wait. The pattern works up SO fast that I literally made one sock in an evening, which would be unthinkble with a fingering weight sock. They would also make great Christmas gifts, if you’re already starting down that path.

Until next time, happy crafting!
