#303 – Soy Sauce Costume

Halloween is coming up, and I’m always on the lookout for easy DIY costumes! I’ve seen variations of a soy sauce costume floating around on the internet before, and I finally found these perfect printables online.

  • 1 sheet of red posterboard
  • 1 sheet of label paper
  • Colour printer
  • Black dress

I actually skipped Jean’s steps with the black felt, and came up with an even easier hack for a DIY costume. I used my colour printer and a full sheet of label paper to directly turn the soy sauce logos into a sticker! That way, I could stick them directly to my dress without fussing about safety pins and felt. For the most part, the stickers stayed on, but the soy sauce label on my waist did get a little fussy after a lot of sitting and standing.

DIY Soy Sauce Costume

I actually initially made this costume in 2020 and wore it to my babysitting families Halloween party. It was so cute to see their faces light up as they realized what I was! One of them even ran to their kitchen to grab their bottle of soy sauce to show me that we matched. I will probably be wearing it again this year in 2021 since it was so easy to make and the feedback was great.

My family never really celebrated Halloween growing up, so other than a burst of creativity where my mom sewed all four of us a costume, I’ve never had the experience of making a special costume before. This process was really fun though! Do you have any special costumes or Halloween traditions?

Until next time, happy crafting!
