#243 – Basic Toe-Up Sock

They say that one of the big advantages of toe-up socks is that you can adjust the leg length based on how much yarn you have. Because the yardage of this sock skein set is smaller than I’m used to, I decided that a basic toe-up sock was the best way to go.

  • 1 set of The Blue Brick Killarney Sock Twins – a fingering weight (1) yarn (colour: Caldera)
  • Size 1 (2.25mm) knitting needles (I used ChiaoGoo 60cm circulars)

This pattern was just what I needed, with a straightforward toe-up pattern that really allowed the yarn to shine. The heel did throw off the fade a little bit due to the flap and gusset, but I don’t think non-knitters would even notice. I’m not sure if there is even a work around for it? If you know of one, please let me know!

I love the gradient fade of this yarn so much, but I really wish that the matched skeins were longer. To compare, the Urth Yarn Uneek Sock kits are matched skeins at 200m each, whereas the Killarney Sock Twins are only 137m each. I must have missed that fact when purchasing, because it did make for a much shorter leg section than I had hoped. I considered supplementing it with another skein of blue yarn, but I thought that would ruin the beautiful fade. Nevertheless, these socks turned out cute (if short), and I hope their recipient likes them.

Until next time, happy crafting!
