Even as the pace of the world slows down during this social isolation / shelter in place, I can’t help but continue to feel the urge to stay busy. I’m not sure if that’s a vestige from my busy schedule as a child, or just the way my brain works, but I’m very thankful for crafts and other hobbies to keep my hands busy and my mind occupied. I found this blanket design on Instagram, and I thought it would be a great side project to start.

- 1 skein of Patons Astra – a DK (3) weight yarn (colour B: Silver Grey Mix)

I really like the simplicity of this granny square variation, and while I plan to use a more monochrome look of the white and grey, I’m sure that it would also be gorgeous with a rainbow colour scheme. A part of me wants to use up the mini-skeins from the Paintbox Advent Calendar, but another part of me wants to save those for a yet-to-be-discovered project.
I’ve had a patchwork blanket on my list for ages! I’ve seen some beautiful designs, ranging from hexagons to star-shaped motifs, but I’ve never gotten around to it. I figure, what better time than a quarantine? I’m a little unsure about how to join the squares, so if you have any tips, I’d love to hear them! I know some makers swear by join-as-you-go, but I’m not familiar enough with the technique to adapt it for this blanket. If I have to seam all the pieces together at the end, so be it.
Until next time, happy crafting!
