I finally had some free time on my hands, so I went back and tried to salvage the unfortunate rhino lovey from a few months ago. Since the yarn was white, I figured that a bunny was a safe animal choice with a higher chance of recognition from my friends and family. I just needed some floppy ears and a wiggly pink nose.

#388 – HBC Blanket
A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a kit for a Hudson’s Bay blanket and cushion set, and I’ve finally gotten around to starting it. On days where I’m not really feeling creative, I like kits because everything is already all laid out for me. I don’t have to pick a pattern or dither about yarn selection. I can just sit down and go. It’s very soothing.

My mom told me that this was one of the least cute, ugly, unlovable things I had ever made, and she was dead serious when she said it. On one hand, her feedback made me laugh, and on the other, hand I was instantly crushed. I figured that I would write it up anyways, as not all projects can be winners.

I don’t know if I mentioned it, but my Lamb Lovey ended up going to one of my coworker’s little ones! She actually has two children, so the first question that I got was to ask where the second one was. Having come from a bigger family myself, I definitely agree that fairness should be a thing, so I agreed to whip up another lovey. This time, the requested animal was a kitty.

With the leftover yarn from the Chicken Hat, I knew I would have to make something super fluffy. There is a local maker who specializes in making loveys (a snuggly stuffed animal and blanket hybrid), and families absolutely adore her stall at markets. Seeing her finished products inspired me to give loveys a try, with my own spin of course. Since my yarn is white, I thought a lamb would be a safe choice.
Continue reading#347 – Squared Star Blanket
I have seen a lot of star blankets out there, but I had never seen the innovative idea of rounding off the corners to turn the star into a square until this pattern! It adds a modern touch, and also makes it a bit more functional for matching the shape of a bed or a couch. Jess described this pattern as having ’a modern spin’, and I wholeheartedly agree.

Corner-to-corner crochet has always fascinated me because you can use it to make any picture come to life, just by shading in each square with the right colours. This particular pattern has been on my radar for a while, mostly because of my secret failures as a plant parent. I figure that if I can’t keep a real monstera alive, I might as well go for crochet versions.
I’ve had the goal of making a patchwork crochet blanket for ages, but have always been scared off by the amount of yarn ends. However, almost a year ago, I won a giveaway by my local yarn shop (The Fibre Nook) for a Catona Colour Pack and I knew a blanket would be the only way to do justice to all the colours. So here I am, slowly chipping away at my hexagons.

Even as the pace of the world slows down during this social isolation / shelter in place, I can’t help but continue to feel the urge to stay busy. I’m not sure if that’s a vestige from my busy schedule as a child, or just the way my brain works, but I’m very thankful for crafts and other hobbies to keep my hands busy and my mind occupied. I found this blanket design on Instagram, and I thought it would be a great side project to start.

If you recall, I previously had the chance to work with the yarn from TopKnot Style in a scarf, and I’ve always wanted to make a blanket with that yarn, but it didn’t make a lot of sense financially. When I saw that a friend was de-stashing some TopKnot Style yarn, I jumped at the chance to pick it up.
