#209 – Chevron Lace Socks

Okay, so life happened, and I have fallen SO behind in making the promised birthday socks for my friends. Still, I’m pleased to announce that I’m now at 3/6 completion, and we can enter 2020 slightly more on track than I was.

  • 2/3 skein of Urth Yarns Harvest Fingering – a fingering weight (1) yarn (colour A: Thyme)
  • 1/10 skein of Yarn Ink Classic Sock – a fingering weight (1) yarn (colour B: Fringe)
  • Size 1 (2.25mm) knitting needles (I used ChiaoGoo 60cm circulars)

I only made two changes, one intentionally, and one by mistake. First off, I tend to like a skinnier cuff, so I did fewer rows of the ribbing than the pattern states. My unintentional change was during the two decreases, when I kept alternating between the decrease and straight knit rows all the way to the end. This makes for a more gradual toe shape, which I don’t mind at all.

I really liked this gusset heel design because for once I didn’t get a little gap at the top corners of the heel! This is very exciting for me, as some of my previous sock attempts have had a little hole there. Normally, I just close it up when I am weaving in my ends, so it’s no big deal, but it’s nice to have one less thing to worry about.

Because of the lace design of this sock, there is a fair amount of stretch to this sock. Still, I live in eternal fear that this sock will not fit my friend, as her feet are bigger than mine, and I’m not sure that I’ve left enough space for everything.

I’m also really curious about buying a sock blocker! I’ve heard that it’s especially important for lacier patterns, as it helps the yarn “relax” and really reveal the delicate stitches. I will definitely keep an eye out for one when craft fairs and yarn markets begin to pop up again in the spring.

Until next time, happy crafting!
