#210 – F-Bomb

In general, I try to keep my language pretty clean. It’s a side effect of spending a lot of time around little ones because I don’t want to accidentally pass on any bad habits. Still, when I was asked to make this tongue-in-cheek decoration, I thought it was funny enough that I had to say yes.

For this project, I ended up making a lot of tweaks, starting with the shape of the bomb, to the wick, and everything in between. First off, I chose to use the Ideal Sphere for a 30-row sphere by Emily on Ms. Premise-Conclusion. This resulted in a bigger and rounder sphere than the one the pattern sets out, as I wanted the “F” to look more proportional on the bomb. I also changed the wick as I simply did a foundation single crochet chain instead of the cord in the pattern. I was in a bit of a time crunch, and didn’t have the time to learn a new cord, so I just defaulted to what I knew.

Finally, I ended up adding a little bit of single crochet around the letter “F” to make the lines cleaner. I think this helped it to contrast sharply against the black of the bomb.

This particular bomb is filled with a lot of yarn ends mixed in with the fiberfill, as I didn’t have quite enough fiberfill on hand. I’ve actually heard of many people choosing to save yarn ends to use in stuffing, so it’s kind of nice to be able to find a purpose for those short pieces of yarn instead of just chucking them in the garbage.

Until next time, happy crafting!
