#149 – Flower Shawl

This has been my big project of this Japan trip, mostly because of the yardage — it’s almost one kilometre of yarn! I’ve never used single ball of yarn that big before, but I’m absolutely in love with this colour fade, and this pattern is so scrumptious.

  • Size G (4.00 mm) hook

Like I mentioned in my last few posts, I only brought one size hook on this trip, so I had to use one smaller than the recommended size. Because of that, I was a little short on yarn, so I modified the ending of this shawl. After the last repeat of rows 34 – 38, I only repeated rows 7 – 10 once before doing five rows of double crochet.

I love love love this colour scheme. Blues and grays are my absolute favourite to work with, so this yarn cake was a dream come true for me; This shawl got so large that photographing it was actually a bit unwieldy, and I never did quite get the shot that I wanted. Still, I absolutely loved this pattern, and I think the end result was beautiful.

I ended up leaving as a thank-you gift for my cousin’s wife, and I hope she likes it. I barely finished this shawl before my last day in Hong Kong, but it was worth all the frantic last minute crocheting to finally have this finished product. I’ve never made a shawl this size before, so it was pretty cool seeing it through to the end.

Until next time, happy crafting!
