I have been eyeing the Patagonia Synchilla sweater for a long time, mostly because I love the idea of a quarter-opening pullover. I haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet, but when I saw Joan call for testers on this gorgeous cable-knit quarter-zip sweater instead, I felt like this was the much better alternative for what I had been looking for. This way I could customize the colour however I wanted, while still keeping the benefits of the quarter-opening!
I really want to get better at sewing. Honestly, the thought of adding a zipper shouldn’t fill me with fear, but sure enough, I avoided this step of the project like the plague. Thankfully, there were a few handy YouTube tutorials, and I think that I managed a passable finished project!
Craft workshops bring me so much joy, so when I heard that there would be an opportunity for a macrame feather workshop in my town, I was thrilled! My only exposure to macrame has been making the hemp bracelets from the early 2000s, so it was great to see what other designs can be made with the simple knot patterns. This particular workshop was hosted by Rhian from Dreamers.
Okay, I know I say this a lot, but this was one of my favourite test knit projects that I have ever done. The design is timeless, and the joy I had in making this project was unbelievable. This particular sweater is destined for a friend, but I have half a mind to cast on a second one, because that’s how much I enjoyed it.
I’ve been meaning to try and make an amigurumi Pokémon for the longest time, so when my friend’s birthday came up, I decided a stuffie version of his favourite Pokémon would be a sure hit. Luckily, his favourite Pokémon happens to be a pretty popular choice, so there were multiple patterns for Umbreon floating around on the Internet. All I had to do was choose one!
Despite mahjong being such a traditionally Chinese game, would you believe me if I told you that this Christmas holiday was the first time I had ever played it? My family didn’t have a set of tiles in the home growing up, and I guess we just found different games to play instead. However, since watching Crazy Rich Asians, my Mom has really wanted to teach our family how the game works. This year, we finally borrowed a set of tiles from a family friend, and we were off to the races.
Over the years, I’ve made a lot of promises to a lot of different people to knit or crochet different things for them. Unfortunately, I don’t always remember to follow through with it, so I am thankful for how gracious others have been in terms of patience and gentle reminders. This is one of those cases, where my friend has been waiting very politely for a pair of mittens.
Continue reading#362 – Indoor Rock Climbing
Before Christmas, I had the opportunity to take a free belaying course at the local recreation centre! I was really excited for this, because while I have rock climbed and bouldered before, I’ve never had the chance to dive deeper into it. On top of that, free public classes always make me happy because it adds so much to the city and richness of living there.
Over the holiday break, I redid my yarn inventory and realized that I own way too much yarn. Somehow, even though I have been trying hard to only buy yarn when I have a designated project, I still have a giant stash of new and partially used skeins. I really need to start choosing projects to work through it, so I decided to start with this cabled stash-busting striped project.
Continue reading#360 – Mommy and Mini Set
I think that matching is an underrated declaration of love, so when it was time for me to tackle my list of homemade Christmas presents, I knew a matching Mommy and Mini set would be on my list. I also knew that I would be short on time, so a bulky or super bulky project would be ideal.
