#394 – HBC Cushion

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I bought a Hudson’s Bay themed blanket and cushion kit, and I’ve slowly been working through it. The blanket worked up like a dream, but I actually had to make the cushion cover twice, mostly because I forgot to check gauge the first time around. Thankfully, I didn’t have to try a third time.

I love the feeling of being “productive” while I rewatch old movies, so having a mindless knitting project is right up my alley. Some people call this process “knitflix”, which I think is super clever. This cushion was perfect with minimal counting, and the iconic stripe pattern instantly elevated the design.

A 14” x 14” square pillow with a knit cover rests on a green leather recliner. The pillow cover is white with one stripe each of navy, yellow, red, and green.

As another embarrassing confession for this project, it actually took me two tries to get the right size pillow insert. If I’m being honest, this is probably a sign that I should focus more when I knit and watch a little less TV, but it is what it is. I actually think that for my particular project, I could have used a larger pillow as the corners are a little empty, so maybe I did have it right with my first purchase.

I’ve actually never thought about cushions much before, but I think it would be really cute to make different covers for holidays and celebrations. In theory, this would be a pretty simple task since I have a template pattern now, but we’ll see if I follow up on it. Could you see yourself using a cushion set in your house?

Until next time, happy crafting!
