#327 – Paint Night

I’m always on the lookout for fun activities to do with the youth at church, so when someone suggested a Bob Ross style paint night, I was thrilled. Personally, I had my doubts about my artistic abilities, but I figured I might as well use a fun, low stakes night to give it a whirl.

  • Acrylic paint (Black, White, Ultramarine, Violet)
  • 6” x 8” (15cm x 20.5cm) Canvas
  • 20mm Flat brush
  • 20mm Fan brush
  • Mixing plate
  • Water cup

While I did originally want to find a Bob Ross video, I quickly learned that most of his techniques work best with oil-based paints instead of acrylics. Luckily, YouTube has a plethora of tutorials using acrylic paints, and I thought this moonlit scene would appeal to everyone.

My favourite part of the night was seeing everyone’s finished products! Most of us had our doubts about our artistic abilities, but we were all so impressed with how they turned out. I especially loved seeing how differently people interpreted the same video. It just goes to show how we all see the world uniquely.

I still don’t think painting is in my wheelhouse, but I love the concept of having a quiet paint night with friends. I know that it was a popular date night activity a while ago too, so that could be an option for people too. Have you ever tried it? Do you have any secret tips to share?

Until next time, happy crafting!
