#255 – Twist Headband

I’ve put myself on a strict yarn diet for the last few weeks, and it’s been kind of fun looking for the right projects for the yarn in my stash. Now that I feel more comfortable with knitting, I figured it was high time that I look for a knitted headband pattern to try out!

  • 1/2 skein of Lion Brand Lion’s Pride Woolspun – a bulky weight (5) yarn (colour: Peacock)
  • Size 10 (6.00mm) knitting needles (I used Knitter’s Pride 60cm circulars)

Pattern by Mirella at Mirella Moments

I really like the simplicity of this pattern! The easy two-row-repeat means that you can watch something on TV without having to count stitches, and the ribbed pattern looks so beautiful. My one reminder is that when you slip stitch, make sure the yarn is in the back! If you forget, you will get a little “bar” across the chevron.

My weakness remains seaming. For some reason, after seaming, it didn’t look as beautiful as Mirella’s. I swear I followed each step of folding the headband in half and then stacking, but I guess I must have messed up somewhere. I still find the headband cute, and will probably wear it a lot this winter, but I just wish the ends of projects weren’t so hard.

Is there a part of crafting that you find hardest? Is it the flash of inspiration? Getting started? Trudging through the middle? Or finding the energy to finish? For me, it’s definitely finishing. Currently, I have a more than a few pairs of socks with ends that haven’t been sewn in. I think a big part of my reluctance to do it is because I know I’m not good at it, but there’s no way to improve without practice!

Until next time, happy crafting!
