#250 – Barcode Socks

I’m not even sorry for all of the sock content on this blog these days because it brings me so much joy. This latest pair was part of a test knit for another local Alberta maker! As always, I learned so much, and am so excited to share with you.

  • 1/5 skein of Scheepjes Metropolis – a fingering weight (1) yarn (colour A: Dubai)
  • 3/5 skein of Diamond Select Footsie – a fingering weight (1) yarn (colour B: 2508 Taupe)
  • Size 1 (2.25mm) knitting needles (I used ChiaoGoo 60cm circulars)

The biggest thing that I had to work on for this project was to have the correct tension for the floating yarn during the colourwork section. My default tendency is to pull it too tight, and as a result, my first sock was a little tight and hard to put on. My second sock was much better, so practice really does make perfect.

I also learned that when doing colourwork, you want to have the yarn for the colour that you want to “pop” carried along the bottom. That makes the accent stitches stand out more! It’s so interesting how the little things can make such a big difference when it comes to knitting.

During this pattern testing, I felt so behind the curve because the other testers were always steps ahead of me. However, I tried to remind myself that it’s helpful to have multiple perspectives, so even if someone else found a typo or mistake before I did, it doesn’t mean that my contributions weren’t valid.

Until next time, happy crafting!
