#248 – Interchangeable Needles

I decided a while ago that if I was going to take knitting seriously, I was going to need a set of interchangeable needles. Depending on the brand and needle material, these sets can add up quickly. Luckily, I found a used set of needles for sale online at a discounted price and immediately snapped them up.

So the main purpose of interchangeable needles is so that you can work a wide variety of projects without having to buy new needles for each different size. Instead, you can attach the correct gauge needle tips to the cord and be ready to go!

My first experience using my needle set was for the brioche shawl, and they worked perfectly! The joints between the needle and cord were snug if I used the tightening key, and the yarn never got caught on it. It’s also nice having three different cord lengths to choose from so that you can best match your project. So far I like the feel of the steel, although a small part of me does really want a set of LYKKE wooden interchangeables too. I’ve never worked with smaller gauge wooden knitting needles before, so I’m not sure if they would feel more or less slippery with yarn.

It is an investment to pick up a set of interchangeables, but I told myself it would be cheaper than buying new needles each time. Apart from the LYKKE set, my other wishlist item would be the Chiaogoo TWIST mini set which covers the smaller gauges. Again, I don’t actually need either set. I have all the needles I need right now, but I just find them cute.

Until next time, happy crafting!
