#205 – Unravelling

As a crocheter/knitter I know this is an alien concept. Why on earth would you want to unravel something? The truth is however, that we won’t always love projects as much as we once did, or maybe things don’t fit like they used to. In my case, a store-bought machine-knit sweater had developed a hole, and I decided I wanted to repurpose the yarn for a future project!

Honestly, all you have to do is find a loose end (or create one) and start pulling gently. I ended up working my yarn into a ball, but you could definitely also cake it or use a yarn swift possibly!

I remember hearing a story in a yarn store about a woman who only made items using yarn from sweaters she had thrifted! I wish I had written her name down somewhere, because I love this idea. It’s so creative and it’s a great way to be environmentally friendly as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are all sort of fibers, like mohair and angora, in thrift store sweaters!

I also plan to unravel some of my earlier projects that I don’t wear as much any more, as that seems like a better choice than having them sit in my closet. They brought me a lot of joy when I first finished them, but I think a transformed version would be even better.

Until next time, happy crafting!
