#200 – “Be Nice” Embroidery

A year or so ago, a pair of Edmonton best friends launched Made Social, with the idea that friends could get together, craft, eat dessert, and just enjoy being together. I love that. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to actually attend any sessions yet. When they announced that they would have some kits that people could do at home with a friend, I knew I had to get my hands on a set.

  • Embroidery kit by Made Social (I chose “Be Nice”)
  • An iron and ironing board
  • Glue (really good glue)

I know that I had previously posted about Florals and Floss being a huge inspiration for embroidery (and she is!!), but that kit is still waiting for me to finish it. I know, I’m ashamed too. However, I figured that this much smaller, much more manageable project would be nice and quick to squeeze in, and it was! I did the whole kit from start to finish within an evening, so it’s definitely the kind of thing you could do over a night-in with a friend.

I would recommend getting some heavy duty glue to help attach the hanging string to the wood, as the glue on the back of the magnets really wasn’t strong enough to hold the string there for long.

It’s nice to have everything you need in a single box. Christine and Andrea really have their aesthetics together, from the sparkly tissue paper to the clean lines of their crafts. The one downside is their pricepoint, which is on the expensive side considering what the supplies actually are. However, I remind myself that they had to use their time to curate the materials, reach out and partner with other local artisans, and create these boxes, and time is valuable! I have a tendency to undervalue my time, especially when pricing items, so this is a good reminder for me.

Until next time, happy crafting!
