#160 – Glass Fused Dish

I’m going to be honest with you, I actually made this project a few years ago, but I’ve never had a chance to post about it until now. It’s so different from what I normally do, and I love trying new things. Glass fusing is one of those!

Like I mentioned earlier, this was actually a part of a fun girl’s afternoon I had with my best friend a few years ago, but I remember that we were both very pleasantly surprised by the experience! You get to select different pieces of glass that you can arrange however you want on the glass base, and you lightly glue them into place. When you’re satisfied with your design, you give it to the staff, and they place it in a kiln to fire it and fuse the glass pieces to form one coherent product! You can return to pick it up after a week or so.

At the time, they offered a few options, including this shallow jewelry dish, a hanging glass ornament, and small pendants. I’m not sure what they still offer, but if you ever want a fun activity to do and you’re bored of ceramic painting, I would definitely recommend trying The Glazing Pot! I’m also unsure about their pricing, as we had used a Groupon when we went, and I was unable to find current pricing on their website. I suggest giving them a call if you are interested.

This gave me a taste of working with glass, and my next hope is that I can try glass blowing someday. All the options I’ve found ask for a several week commitment, which is totally understandable, so I’m hoping that I can fit it in soon. I’ve seen so many beautiful glass ornaments, and I would love to try my hand at that.

Until next time, happy crafting!
