#125 – Basic Baby Toque

I’m happy that this week I got to work on a project that really centers on using crochet for a good cause. In this case, this little toque for newborns will be heading to a local Edmonton hospital!

  • 1/20 skein of Caron Cakes — a worsted weight (4) yarn (above: Strawberry Trifle)
  • Size H (5.00 mm) hook

The beauty of crocheting for newborns is that these hats whip up in no time at all. I think from start to finish, this little guy took me around half an hour. With my life slowly getting busier, it’s nice to have these quick projects that are also super rewarding.

Stephanie from All About Ami, (who is my crochet dreams, for real) helped to organize a Sip and Stitch meeting in Edmonton especially for making these newborn hats. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it, but I”m hoping that I’ll still be able to contribute a few hats to this wonderful cause. The reason that we are donating these hats is because newborns are really bad at regulating their body temperature, so hats help to keep them warm. This is especially crucial for premature babies or babies with complications who cannot be held by their parents and experience the skin-to-skin contact that typically helps with temperature control. I’m hoping to have a big pile of them for the next Sip and Stitch to help as many cute little ones as possible.

Until next time, happy crafting!
