#4 – Braided Headband

This year, Christmas is going to be a very hand-made affair for me! One of the easiest gifts for me to work up were these braided headbands. I thought they were adorable when I saw the pattern, and they reminded me of knitting, which I love the look of, but I’m not quite as good at it – I prefer to crochet.

  • 1/16 skein of Caron Simply Soft – a worsted weight (4) yarn (from left to right: Country Blue, Grey Heather, Soft Green)
  • Size I (5.5 mm) hook

I did find the video she provides for a half-double-crochet (HDC) foundation chain a little confusing, so I’ve added a couple of pictures that will help clear it up hopefully!

My biggest struggle was not understanding which loops to insert my hook into, and it turns out that the stitches are actually on the bottom of the chain, or opposite of the side where the hook is naturally resting. When you turn the chain over, it will be the first full stitch from the end, as indicated by my index and thumb.

This is just a quick picture of what it looks like after the hook has been inserted into the chain-one from the previous stitch.

If you guys need any more help, feel free to let me know! I can’t wait to give these out as gifts and see what other people think of them.
