One of my goals that I wanted to achieve before I turned 30 was a sprint-distance triathlon. I was curious if this was something that I could push my body to do, since I was pretty sure I could do each event individually, but maybe not all together. Thankfully, I have a great group of friends and family who cheered me on throughout training and all the way to the finish line.

#389 – Bike Rides
When I was younger, my family spent a summer going on a bike ride in the River Valley pretty much every day. For whatever reason, we basically stopped going on rides after that summer, and I rarely got back on the bike after that. Two summers ago, I bought a used cruiser bike off Kijiji, and finally remembered how much I used to love biking around!
Before adopting Annie, I didn’t really have any experience with pets. Since that time, I’ve started to feel more comfortable around four-legged friends, including both cats AND dogs. My friends have been kind enough to include me on some of their daily dog walks, and it turns out I really dig it.
For my best friend’s bachelorette (part two, duh), we did a weekend trip to Napa Valley. I loved the whole getaway, but one of the highlights for me was the aerial silks class that we took together! I had never done anything like this before, so it was a really fun experience pushing my body to move in a new and different way.
I hate running. If you’ve ever spoken to me, you would know that I do not enjoy cardio, and if you told me a year ago that I would be running on the treadmill more than once a week, I would have told you that you were crazy. I guess that’s the funny thing about life though, nothing is set in stone.
Continue reading#362 – Indoor Rock Climbing
Before Christmas, I had the opportunity to take a free belaying course at the local recreation centre! I was really excited for this, because while I have rock climbed and bouldered before, I’ve never had the chance to dive deeper into it. On top of that, free public classes always make me happy because it adds so much to the city and richness of living there.
My friends and I were flipflopping about our weekend plans last week when we stumbled across a rental company in Edmonton for stand-up paddleboards. While I have tried paddleboarding before, it’s been a long time, so I was excited to do it again, especially since it’s skyrocketed in popularity lately. It turns out that there are lots of great spots to do it in Edmonton and the surrounding areas.
Until now, my winter sport has always been ringette. I mean, I’ve always watched hockey on TV, but somehow I never played it personally. This is the year where that all changes. I had my first practice/scrimmage yesterday, and I’m so excited for the rest of the season.
(As a disclaimer, I signed up for two big test knit/crochet projects over the month of August, so I’ll be posting a lot of non-craft related things as I tackle them.)
I’ve been lucky enough to have friends who have pushed me to enjoy more of the natural beauty of Canada, which has resulted in more time spent hiking over the last few years. Since I live (relatively) close to the Rocky Mountains, it’s a great way to spend a weekend!
#291 – Swimming
(As a disclaimer, I signed up for two big test knit/crochet projects over the month of August, so I’ll be posting a lot of non-craft related things as I tackle them.)
After an eleven year hiatus, I finally dove back into the world of summer swimming, and it’s been an absolute blast. With the world still figuring out what is reasonable for COVID-19 precautions, it was nice to be able to hop in the pool and focus on the exercise.
