Like I said in my previous post, I finally decided to accept that summer is over and join in the autumn fun with some pumpkin decor. I’ve never really had the opportunity to compare knit and crochet so directly either, so this was a fun project to see how two different techniques create unique looks.

Now that we’re past the official first day of autumn, I figured it would be a good time to break out the fall-themed decor! I’ve seen a lot of makers selling handmade pumpkins in fall markets, so I thought I would try to track down a pattern. Luckily, I found two, one for knitting and one for crochet! This week will be about the knit version.
Continue reading#347 – Squared Star Blanket
I have seen a lot of star blankets out there, but I had never seen the innovative idea of rounding off the corners to turn the star into a square until this pattern! It adds a modern touch, and also makes it a bit more functional for matching the shape of a bed or a couch. Jess described this pattern as having ’a modern spin’, and I wholeheartedly agree.
Lately I’ve been trying to get better at identifying some of the local flora that I see on hikes, but it’s pretty slow going. I don’t exactly have a green thumb, so my exposure to trees and plants has mostly been a form of vague appreciation instead of knowing what they actually were. Thankfully, modern technology is a true game changer when it comes to plant identification.
Continue reading#345 – Double Crossed Tank
With all of the options out there, I’ve gotten in the habit of applying for test knits based solely on the who the designer is. When this option came up, I knew I wanted in. Charissa has a talent for a designing a clean, timeless look, and this tank top is a great example of everyday basics. I’ve applied for her designs before, so I was thrilled when I was finally accepted!
When I was a little girl, my mom put me into drama classes along with ballet and art. Unfortunately for my mom and me, none of those classes took. On the bright side, we still love watching live theatre, seeing ballet and going to art galleries! Out of those three, I would have to say that watching plays is my favourite.
Continue readingReview #9 – Fubbles No-Spill
I know that this isn’t exactly a hobby or craft, but if you work with preschoolers, you probably know how entertaining bubbles can be. You also probably know how clumsy preschoolers are. An entire jar of bubble liquid can get spilled in the blink of an eye. When my co-workers showed me Fubbles, my entire outlook on bubbles changed. Seriously. This is not a sponsored post, I just love Fubbles. And bubbles.
Continue reading#343 – Yarn Weight Substitutions
If you are in the knitting or crochet world, you have probably heard the recommendation that you can change the yarn weight and needle/hook size to get differently-sized finished products. I was recently asked by one of my babysitting children if I could make her the same pencil case that I use! Unfortunately, I didn’t have any worsted weight yarn in the right colours, so I had to improvise.
Continue reading#342 – Amigrumi Colour Change
In case you haven’t noticed, I love learning new techniques for knitting and crochet. I recently saw an Instagram Reel where they showed off a new technique for colour changes that looked so crisp and official, and I knew I would have to try it out on my next striped project.
If you know me personally, then you know about my deep and enduring love for a particular Christian sleepaway camp that I grew up going to. As an adult, I was later able to volunteer there, and it has remained one of my favourite weeks each summer. In acceptance of the bittersweet nature of change, this will be my last summer there, and I wanted to commemorate it.
