#311 – LEGO Minifigure

Until 2004, West Edmonton Mall was the largest indoor shopping centre in the entire world! It has since lost that record, but WEM still gets some really exciting pop-up stores and flagship stores. One of them is the LEGO store, which currently offers the only opportunity in Canada to design and print a custom minifigure!

In my mind, I was thinking that I would be able to customize all aspects of the minifigure, so I was a little surprised when it turned out that you only get to design the ‘shirt’ aspect. Don’t get me wrong, I still had a lot of fun tinkering around with the customization options, but I feel like you should know what you actually get to do before signing up.

In addition to the custom ‘shirt’, you get to pick out four things, so I chose the pants, head, hat, and rabbit. This was meant to be a gift, so I’m hoping that the design and accessories I picked out will make sense to the receiver, even if it seems a little random here.

While I was there, there were a few young children who were doing this with their parents, and I can see this being a really exciting thing for little ones! Personally I might have been a touch too old to really get the full effect of this, but it’s not a break-the-bank activity, so I’d say it was worth it. For reference, it was $16.79CAD for each figure, but like I said earlier, West Edmonton Mall currently has the only minifigure factory in Canada. I like LEGO, but I wouldn’t call myself a fan, as I’ve never even made any of the really exciting kits. I would love to hear more about one of those kits from someone who has done it before though!

Until next time, happy crafting!
