#240 – Cat Bed

So as you may recall, I recently adopted a cat. I’m honestly surprised that I haven’t made her more things already, but this is my first creation for her! It’s just a simple cat bed, but she seems to like it, and that’s all I want.

  • 3/4 skein of Bernat Blanket Pet — a bulky weight (5) yarn (above: Denim)
  • Size K (6.50mm) hook

Pattern by tick-tock hobbies

(abbreviations: SC = single crochet; INC = two single crochet into a single stitch; DC = double crochet)

  1. Using the magic circle technique, cast on 6 single crochet stitches. (6 stitches)
  2. INC in each stitch around the circle. (12 stitches)
  3. *SC in the first stitch. INC in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * five more times. (18 stitches)
  4. *Do two SC. INC in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * five more times. (24 stitches)
  5. *Do three SC. INC in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * five more times. (30 stitches)
  6. Continue increasing in this pattern until there are 120 stitches in the round. (36/42/48/54/60/66/72/78/84/90/96/102/108/114/120 stitches)
  7. Working in the back loop only, do a DC in the first stitch. Do a SC in the next one hundred and nineteen stitches. At the end of the round, slip stitch into the top of the DC stitch. (120 stitches)
  8. Chain-one. Complete a SC into each stitch of the round. At the end of the round, slip stitch into the top of the first SC. (120 stitches)
  9. Repeat step 8 three more times.
  10. Chain-one. Do fifty SC. Slip stitch into each of the next twenty stitches. Complete another fifty SC. At the end of the round, slip-stitch into the top of the first SC. (120 stitches)
  11. Repeat step 10 four more times.

I thought about adding a cardboard ring around the walls to help reinforce it, but it turns out that Annie likes to stretch around even when she’s sleeping. Because of that, the flexible walls are important for keeping her comfortable inside the bed.

The Bernat yarn is supposed to help fight pet odours, so we’ll see how it holds up in the long run! So far, Annie seems to like it, but it might be because she is a cat and cats like exploring circles and boxes. The yarn does work up quickly though, so this bed didn’t take long to make at all.

Until next time, happy crafting!
