#194 – Terrarium

I want to preface this post by saying that I am not a good plant parent. My friends and family will be quick to point out the now-deceased-plant babies in my life, but hopefully your thumbs are greener than mine.

  • Air plant(s)
  • Glass container
  • Rocks / sand / moss

There’s no “pattern” or template for this, as you can do whatever you want with your own terrarium. I just wanted to add a few helpful tips that I discovered!

For one, most air plants should not be put in soil! I didn’t know this until after I had made my original terrarium, and actually needed to remove my poor air plant from the soil I mistakenly put it in.

For another, you are supposed to water your air plant outside of the terrarium. You can water air plants by spritzing them lightly. The reason between watering them outside of the terrarium is that other things, like the moss, can retain moisture and then cause the air plant to rot.

I got to experiment with making this terrarium as part of a Girl’s Appreciation night led by the gentlemen at my church fellowship! I thought this was a really sweet idea, and I know that I had a great time doing it with my friends.

I’m hoping that I will be able to keep more of my plant babies alive, but I have a terrible tendency to overwater. I just want to provide my plants with everything they need, and sometimes I overdo it. Some of my friends are amazing with plants though, so I will have to ask them for updated tips.

Until next time, happy crafting!
