#129 – Catherine Wheel Scarf

I learned how to crochet when I was in junior high, but I didn’t really get into it until roughly two and a half years ago when I started seeing some super adorable patterns online! I figured since I knew the basics, I might as well try tackling some of them, and this scarf was actually the first thing I made when I came back to crochet.

  • 2 skeins* of Caron Simply Soft – a worsted weight (4) yarn (Colour A: Grey Heather)
  • Size P (11.5 mm) hook
    * You don’t need the full two skeins, but this project holds the yarn doubled!

As this was my first crochet project, I didn’t make any changes — I didn’t know how! In hindsight, this probably wasn’t the best pattern for a beginner, as the Catherine Wheel stitch can be complicated, but I muddled through somehow!

The satisfaction I felt when I finished this project was probably what motivated me to get so involved in crochet. It’s hard to put into words, but I was honestly giddy when I finished, and I was showing everyone I knew what I had made. I was so proud to wear it everywhere too!

Now, almost three years later, I still love this scarf. Sure, there are things that I wish I had done better, like seaming the two ends together, but I made something, and you can’t take that away from me, even if it’s not the prettiest. That’s why I get so excited when my friends tell me that they want to try making something, because I want them to have that same rush of joy. What do you do in your life to have that satisfied feeling?

Until next time, happy crafting!
