I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I love the attitude of “collaboration over competition” that exists in the online crochet community. When I looked on Instagram under hashtags related to pattern testing, it was so neat to see all these beautiful patterns out there! I was excited for the opportunity to collaborate with someone new, and that’s how I stumbled across this pattern!
In recent years, my church has had a Christmas Carnival, and this year, I was helping with the craft table! This mini toque was a super easy craft shown to me by my friend, and it was a hit with all the visiting children!
This is my last week of classes for my speech-language pathology program, and my class has decided to do Spirit Week! Our theme today is Toque Tuesday, and I figured I might make a toque in celebration!
Something about earflaps and tassels just makes me smile, and when I saw this pattern, I knew I wanted to give it a try, if only for the joy it would bring me. I was not disappointed by the end product, even if I did end up making a lot of modifications before getting there.
Pattern testing is one of my favourite parts of the crochet community! It allows me to make new friends and try patterns that I might not otherwise get to try. Recently, I was chosen by Barkley to test her Carter Cable Beanie, and it was a great experience!
Ever since I saw this pattern pop up on my Instagram feed, I knew that I would have to try making it. The little “heart” shapes are so cute, and I was so curious about how to crochet those stitches given the knit appearance. It turns out that simplicity can be beautiful as this pattern was so easy to follow, but had such adorable results!
Confession: my love for soft, neutral toned yarns will probably never go away. For that reason, if nothing else, my love for the Buttercream colourway of the Caron Cakes will likely continue for some time. Having made the Chevron Scarf last time, I wanted to try making a toque! (See, I’m a good Canadian — I say toque!) Confession: I also have a thing for stitches with texture, so when I saw this pattern used the waffle stitch, I knew I had to try it.
As another component of my hand-made Christmas, I made these Bearded Beanies as gifts for my brothers! I was super excited to make these for them as I thought they would get a kick out of them. I had to sacrifice a little bit of sleep to get them ready for Christmas day, but it was worth it to see their faces!
Since I live in Edmonton, it’s always a good idea to have a couple of extra toques handy during the winter, and when I saw how simple this pattern was, I couldn’t resist grabbing the yarn to try it out.
