My friends and I recently had the opportunity to do a live in-person escape room, and I thought it was a really unique opportunity! We have all done escape rooms before, but never before with actors involved. It was also set outside, late at night, so there was a perfect atmosphere for spooky problem solving. I would definitely recommend it to puzzle aficionados!

#384 – Mystery Loot Bags
This project was the brainchild of my babysitting child, who is now 10 years old and infinitely more creative and artistic than I was at that age. I think she must have been inspired by loot boxes in online games, or maybe the gacha capsule machines in Japan. At any rate, our goal was to create mystery bags filled with her ‘paper stuffies’ so that we could draw for them later in the afternoon.

Despite mahjong being such a traditionally Chinese game, would you believe me if I told you that this Christmas holiday was the first time I had ever played it? My family didn’t have a set of tiles in the home growing up, and I guess we just found different games to play instead. However, since watching Crazy Rich Asians, my Mom has really wanted to teach our family how the game works. This year, we finally borrowed a set of tiles from a family friend, and we were off to the races.

I’m not sure if you are a puzzle person, but word games have been a fun part of my life lately! There’s been the whole craze around Wordle since December 2021, but there will always be a soft spot in my heart for a classic crossword puzzle. You can work on a crossword solo or with a friend, and there’s a fun sense of accomplishment when you finish.
