This is my last week of classes for my speech-language pathology program, and my class has decided to do Spirit Week! Our theme today is Toque Tuesday, and I figured I might make a toque in celebration!

• 1 skein of Loops and Threads Charisma — a bulky (5) weight yarn (above: Violet)
• Size K (6.50 mm) hook

Pattern by tick-tock hobbies

(abbreviations: SC = single crochet; DC = double crochet; INC = two single crochet into a single stitch)

1. Using the magic circle technique, start off with six single crochets. (6 stitches)
2. While working in the round, INC in each stitch around the circle. (12 stitches)
3. *SC in one stitch. INC in the next.* Repeat from * to * five more times. (18 stitches)
4. *In each of the next two stitches, do a SC. INC in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * five more times. (24 stitches)
5. *In each of the next three stitches, do a SC. INC in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * five more times. (30 stitches)
6. *In each of the next four stitches, do a SC. INC in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * five more times. (36 stitches)
7. *In each of the next five stitches, do a SC. INC in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * five more times. (42 stitches)
8. *In each of the next six stitches, do a SC. INC in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * five more times. (48 stitches)
9. *In each of the next seven stitches, do a SC. INC in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * five more times. (54 stitches)
10. SC in each stitch around the circle. (54 stitches)
11. Repeat step 10 fourteen more times. (54 stitches)
12. Chain three stitches. This will count as a DC stitch as well as include an extra chain to mark a skipped stitch. Starting in the sixth stitch from the hook, do a DC. *Chain one stitch while skipping a stitch. Do a DC in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * until the circle is complete. Join to the second stitch in the first chain-three with a slip stitch. (54 stitches)

*If this makes a toque that is too small, I would add an extra step between steps 9 and 10, where I do *seventeen SC and then one INC* for a total of three times, leaving me with 57 stitches in the circle. I would then follow the steps as written, except I would do my first DC in the fifth stitch from the hook.

This is a super quick and basic pattern that doesn’t require much attention, so it’s fun to make while watching Netflix or a cheesy Christmas movie. The border makes it a bit more interesting than the basic SC beanie that everyone knows how to make.

I’m clearly in a bit of a blue-phase, given my latest patterns, but I don’t mind! It’s my favourite colour, and it always makes me think of the sky and the ocean, both of which are beautiful.
