#91 – Duality Cowl

Now that it’s officially September, I feel like I can work with bulky yarn again! I’ve had this lovely Quince and Co. yarn in my stash since the summer, and I’ve been itching to work with it. I’m so excited to show you what I made!

  • 3/4 skein of Quince and Co. Puffin – a bulky weight (5) yarn (above colour A: Belize)
  • 3/4 skein of Quince and Co. Puffin Heathers – a bulky weight (5) yarn (above colour B: Audouin)
  • Size K (6.50 mm) hook

Because I didn’t have quite enough yarn, I knew that my scarf would be shorter and skinnier than the pattern. I ended up doing 130 foundation single crochet stitches to start, and only had two wide bands of colour rather than three. The pattern I followed after my foundation row was row 2, 3, 2, 3, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3, with the underlined rows in the Audouin (cream) and the remainder in Belize (sea green). This resulted in the yin-yang nature of this modified scarf, which I thought was beautiful.

I loved these colours! They are vibrant and rich, and everything that I could have wished for. The yarn was also 100% American wool, which I haven’t really worked with before. It wasn’t as soft as the merino wool I worked with for the HIGH TIDE scarf, but it’s definitely very warm and perfect for fall. I can’t wait to show you what else I have in mind for fall accessories!

Until next time, happy crafting!
