It’s been lovely this last week, as I haven’t had any school, work, or volunteer obligations. Instead, I’ve had a lot of time to rest, recharge, and recover! Part of my relaxation process has been a lot of crafting, and it’s been so therapeutic. One of the things I made was this really simple scarf!

• 2 skeins of Colinette Yarns Cadenza – a DK weight (3) yarn (above colours: Sea Breeze)
• Size G (4.00 mm) hook

Pattern by tick-tock hobbies

(abbreviations: DC = double crochet; INC = two double crochet into one stitch; DC2tog = one double crochet over two stitches)

1. Chain twenty-seven. Starting in the fourth stitch from the hook, do a DC. These skipped chains will also count as a stitch. *In each of the next three stitches, do a DC. Over the next four stitches, do two DC2tog. In each of the next three stitches, do a DC. INC into each of the next two stitches.* Repeat from * to *, except only have an INC into one stitch the second time around. (24 stitches)
2. Chain-three and turn. From here on, this pattern will be worked in the back loops only. Start in the fourth stitch from the hook and do a DC. The skipped chains will also count as a stitch. *In each of the next three stitches, do a DC. Over the next four stitches, do two DC2tog. In each of the next three stitches, do a DC. INC into each of the next two stitches.* Repeat from * to *, except only have an INC into one stitch the second time around. (24 stitches)
3. Repeat step 2 as many times as desired.

My favourite aspect of this pattern is the gentle ripple look of this scarf, as I feel like it helped to echo the ocean vibes that the colourway had introduced. To be honest, the colourway was actually something I was unsure about, and I almost frogged this project multiple times. I couldn’t decide how I felt about the way the colours pooled in seemingly random spots, but seeing the final product has convinced me.

I actually purchased these skeins from an acquaintance I made in a local Sip and Stitch group! It’s been so nice to know that there is a community of fellow yarn lovers in the city, even if I haven’t been able to make it out to a lot of the monthly gatherings they have. The Facebook group they have has been great for advice on crafting and business.

I loved working with this yarn, so I was disappointed to learn that Colinette Yarns no longer exists, as they’ve closed their factory. Still, these skeins were great! The wool is 100% merino, so it’s surprisingly soft and it also has a great drape. The Internet tells me that merino is a breathable material and is good for moisture wicking, but I haven’t really tested it out yet since it’s still too early for scarves. I think I would love to work with merino wool again in the future, as long as I can find budget friendly options.
