In Edmonton, it’s always safe to assume that it’ll snow before Halloween – I just didn’t expect snow over Thanksgiving long weekend! However, it was lucky that I had already whipped up this beautiful chevron scarf to keep me warm in the cold weather. I think it’ll become my go-to accessory for the winter, and I hope you’ll enjoy it as well!

The only thing I changed for this pattern was switching to a bigger sized hook since that matched up more closely with the suggested hook size for the yarn. Since I generally crochet on the tight size, I thought that sizing up even more would help to get the open look that I was going for.

I also used variegated yarn instead of having to change colour from time to time. The benefit of this is not having to weave in yarn ends from the colour changes, but the downside is uncontrolled colour changes, often in the middle of the row. While the pattern and stitch makes it so that sudden colour changes are not that noticeable, my OCD nature can’t help but cringe a little bit when I see them. However, nobody else has really noticed the colour changes, and once you’re wearing the scarf, the changes become invisible, I promise.

Honestly, ever since I saw Caron Cakes in Michael’s, I knew I wanted to try working with it. It comes in such a big ball of squeeze-able happiness and the colourways are gorgeous. I ended up going with the Buttercream option since I knew the neutrals would be easy to work with, and if I’m being honest, I’m a sucker for beige and greys. My one tiny complaint is that the yarn is not quite as soft as I would prefer, but the colours more than make up for it.

I absolutely love the way this scarf came out! I know that there are multiple ways to wear a triangular scarf / shawl, but this is my favourite way so far. It keeps me so cozy, especially since it snowed all weekend in Edmonton. With a long winter full of snow projected to hit this year, I know that having a good supply of scarves will be crucial. I would love to try my hand at designing my own triangle-esque scarf in the future, so please keep an eye out for that.
