#39 – Dumpling Kitty

I wish I came up with this name myself, but I can’t take any credit for this at all. The completely adorable name and accompanying pattern were such pleasant surprises to me as I explored Ravelry, and once I saw it, I knew I would have to try making it.

As always, I went with a lighter weight yarn and smaller hook. I think it ended up making the Dumpling Kitty slightly smaller than the four inches predicted by the pattern.

I also didn’t cut the yarn after each stripe in the body, as I chose to use tapestry crochet techniques instead. This is mostly because I’m lazy and tying of all those ends didn’t appeal to me. I did make sure to keep the yarn slack as I brought it from side to side as I’ve learned from previous projects that pulling tight leads to pinched animals. I think tapestry crochet has to be one of my favourite new crochet skills since it makes frequent colour changes a lot easier.

Other than that, I think that this pattern was very clearly laid out and there were also helpful pictures for the trickier steps! The clarifications on the Ravelry page were also handy for this pattern. I’m so happy that Sarah chose to make this pattern available for free and I look forward to making more Dumpling Kitty friends for this first little guy!

Don’t you just love the stripes? Happy crafting everyone.
