#25 – Rose

I love getting flowers! I know they’re not exactly the most “practical” gift because they don’t last, but I still enjoy them. I’ve always meant to learn to press flowers, but that’ll be a project for another day! This week, I wanted to make a more lasting crochet flower, and I found a great pattern to try out.

  • 1/64 skein of Caron Simply Soft – a worsted weight (4) yarn (above colour: Sunshine)
  • Size I (5.5 mm) hook

I must have been daydreaming when I made this rose, because I accidentally made it with double crochets instead of half-double crochets! I didn’t even realize my mistake until I’d already sewn the rose together. This change made the petals a little taller than the original pattern called for, but I think it still looks pretty adorable!

I also chained 49 rather than 51, as I think that the pattern works best with a start of multiples of 3 plus 1. This is because the repeat of the second row takes up three stitches each time, and then the plus one is for the “turn” that’s generally built in to each foundation chain.

Other than that, the pattern was great to follow! I always appreciate it when people have pictures to supplement the text, and I think that’s something I’ll try to do for the future whenever I have an original pattern.

As suggested by Cindy, I think these roses would be a great addition to a headband or even to a hair tie! I can’t wait to think of a way to use my lovely new yellow rose.
