#22 – 3D Origami Monkey

If you guys remember the 3D Origami Pig I showed here a few months ago, then you’ll see the clear similarities to this monkey here! This one was also from a kit by the same company, and it was just as easy to use as the pig!

  • 555 brown rectangles (4 cm x 7 cm)
  • 76 light yellow rectangles (4 cm x 7 cm)
  • 41 orange rectangles (4 cm x 7 cm)
  • Some extra scrap paper (red, orange, yellow, brown, black)

Pattern by Model 1003 Company

The technique is the exact same as the Pig, just with a different assembly pattern. Isn’t it neat to think that you can make such a variety of creations with the simple triangle shape? There are patterns for so many things too! Vases, dragons, you name it. I think the versatility of 3D origami is part of what I find so interesting about it.

Honestly, even though it sometimes feels like cheating to use a kit to make a DIY project, it’s such a timesaver. For these 3D origami projects, it’s so nice to have all the paper already pre-cut and ready for folding. In the past, I’ve measured and cut all the pieces for a project myself, and it’s just very time-consuming. In addition, sometimes the cuts are not as straight as these pre-made kits with their machine cuts.

If I had been on the ball, I would’ve tried to make this monkey in time for Chinese New Years, but I figure it’s still the Year of the Monkey, so he still counts! I hope this year has been good to you so far!
