#18 – Reversible Lace Scarf

Whenever I go shopping for clothes, I’m always drawn to two things: beige coloured tops and lace detailing. In regards to lace, I think it’s the intricacy that does it for me. I just can’t resist the patterns and the way it looks, so when I saw the pattern for this scarf, I knew I was going to have to make it!

  • 2/3 skein of Caron Simply Soft – a worsted weight (4) yarn (above colour A: Off White
  • 1 skein of Loops and Threads Soft and Shiny – a worsted weight (4) yarn (above colour B: Burgundy)
  • Size I (5.5mm) hook

For this particular pattern, I think the stitch diagram provides the most important piece of information. I struggled a lot to understand the written pattern, as I was never sure how many stitches to skip when I was chaining and how to start each new row. However, the stitch diagram helped to make everything crystal clear! I think in the future, I will try to draw out stitch diagrams for any original patterns that I come up with as I think they are incredibly helpful.

One word of warning is that I barely had enough yarn to finish the solid coloured side. The Loops and Threads skein has approximately 311 yards, but I had to cut out two rows. I think this may have affected the final look of the scarf a teensy bit as the lace was a bit more compressed as opposed to being slightly stretched to make the pattern more clear. However, it was such a minor change, I didn’t want to have to go to the trouble of buying another skein of yarn just to finish two additional rows. It could be possible to do two fewer rows on the lace side, which may re-balance the scarf width.

I really enjoyed the double-sided nature of the scarf as having one side with ribbing helps to add a sense of sturdiness and warmth to the gentle and dainty lace side.

Since this was actually a present for one of my best friends, I finally got a chance to use the wonderful ultrasuede garment tags I wrote about that were made by BrickBubble!

Don’t they just make the whole scarf look more professional? I absolutely love the finishing tags these provide, and will be using them as much as possible. Since I love making presents, this works out beautifully! I can’t wait to show you guys what I end up making with them next time!
