#16 – Heart Charm

When I got my very first cell phone, cell phone charms were all the rage. They ranged from adorable Winnie-the Pooh charms to little leather straps that you could use to help carry your phone. Somewhere along the way, cell phone charms must have fallen out of fashion as most phones no longer have the little double-holes to thread the charms through. However, because I’m stubborn and had a wave of nostalgia, I decided to make a heart cell phone charm anyways!

  • 1/64 skeins of Premier Yarns Cotton Fair – a fine weight (2) yarn (above: Slate Gray)
  • 25g Loops and Threads Classic Fiber Fill
  • 1 cell phone charm finding
  • 2.0 mm hook

The only modification I made to this pattern was to use the magic circle technique instead of the chain-2 at the beginning. I find that using the magic circle helps to create a tighter, cleaner look for the finished product. Another plus is that most amigurumi patterns do use the magic circle, so it’s always nice to be able to practice a skill!

I would also strongly recommend using stitch markers! I didn’t have them handy and since it was such a small project, so I thought I would be okay. It turns out that my counting skills are simply not up to snuff as it took me several tries to join the two “bumps” together successfully.

All in all, I’m super happy with the way this charm turned out! I think that I might have to repurpose it as a keychain charm as my phone doesn’t have a space to accommodate it, but it’ll still add a nice touch to my keys. Another option to this pattern would be to use a simple key ring instead of a cell phone charm finding to make this, as the findings can be hard to come by. I actually re-used an old finding from a cell phone charm that had seen better days, so that could be another option rather than trying to buy them!

This would be a great project to make as gifts as it is simple and quick to make. It also has the added benefits of being a stash buster for all those odds and ends of yarn. If you had a variety of different colours, you could make a rainbow of little hearts! That would be so cute to see. No matter what you choose to do with this pattern, I hope you have fun crafting!
